Tic-Tac-Math
Today students learned how to play Tic-Tac-Math with a partner. Everyone was engaged! I truly enjoy watching my class work together. They are such a sweet group.

Book Characters
Last week we started talking about the characters in the books we read. We have been using adjectives to describe what a character looks like on the outside. We have also been talking about what a character is like on the inside by reading about what they say, do and feel. In the pictures below students are working with a partner to describe the characters I have given them.

A Gift from Shaws
Friday UMS received a special gift from Shaws. Not only did they bring a Champ cake but they donated $400.00 to our school. We are fortunate to have such a generous business in our community!
Doubles Dan
Last week we worked on gaining fact power with addition strategies. One of our favorite strategies is to learn our doubles. Friday afternoon we made Doubles Dan to reinforce this concept.
Special Guest
On Friday morning Corporal Jeff Fontaine brought in Daniel Goodrow to read to Room 11. Daniel is a student at Essex High School and a Special Olympic Athlete. Daniel read Piggy Pie! by Margie Palatini and then answered questions. It wa a treat to have a guest reader.

We have had a great opening week for our new school year! I am excited about the wonderful group of learners I have this year.
We spent the first three days getting to know one another and learning the second grade routine. It always amazes me how quickly this first week breezes by. I would like to thank all of my parents for reading the material I have sent home and sending back papers as quickly as you can! Thanks!
We are all excited that we will have our UMS Barbecue celebration rain or shine this year. I hope to see many of you on September 10th at 5:30. We will be at Bayside Park if the weather cooperates and at Colchester High School if it does not. Please send your form back if you plan to attend.
Picture day is also September 10th. We are scheduled to have our pictures taken in the morning at about 10:10. Please be sure to send in your child's picture money on or before September 10th if you plan on purchasing pictures.
Buddy Lists: We provide “buddy lists” for each classroom. The lists include the names and contact information for the students in the classroom. All students are included on the list unless a parent opts to not have their child included. If this is your preference, you need to let Mrs. Philips (264-5959) know by Friday, September 12.

Writing with Kindergarteners
Today Room 11 helped Ms. Barnes students write about their favorite part of Field Day. My second graders did a wonderful job!
