Candy!

Students are starting to bring in candy for the gingerbread houses.  This is exciting!

Winter is here!

Please remember to send your child to school with all of their snow gear.  The snow is coming and it is cold!

Gingerbread Friends

On Friday, we made gingerbread people to hang in the hall.  I will take another picture when they are hung up!

We like Gingerbread!

It's Gingerbread Time!

Last week we started one of my favorite units, Gingerbread!  We read different versions of the Gingerbread Man so that we could compare and contrast these stories.  We will continue to read different version of the Gingerbread Man this week!

Library Visit

Yesterday our class walked to the Burnham library for a visit.  The students learned the history of the library, listened to a story and then selected one book to take home.  It was a great way to celebrate reading!

Halloween Fun!

Our Halloween party was a huge success!  We had delicious food and beautiful weather!
Here are a few pictures from the afternoon.

Lake Champlain Watershed Presentation

We have been learning all about Lake Champlain during the past few weeks.  On Thursday Stephanie  Larkin from the Lake Champlain Basin Program visited our classroom.  She talked about the ways our town can harm the lake.  Stephanie brought a watershed model of a town and each child had the opportunity to "pollute" it with food products that we pretended were pesticides, cow manure, oil, grass clippings, fertilizer, soil and pet waste.  We then had a spray bottle rain storm and everyone watched how the rain carries these pollutants into the lake.  Stephanie then talked about ways to keep the lake clean.  She explained that by protecting wetlands, using plastic bags for pet waste, putting up fences around farms and houses, and planting trees and grass to keep soil from eroding into the lake were ways we can help.  This was a wonderful hands on presentation that everyone enjoyed!

Fire Safety Presentation

October is fire safety month so we had Colchester Volunteer Fireman Jeff come in and talk about fire safety.  He talked about the importance of practicing fire drills at school and at home.  We also learned about the various parts of a firemans uniform and how it keeps them safe.  Here are some pictures from our presentation.

Field Trip to ECHO!

What a beautiful day for a field trip!  Students first learned all about wetlands and then they were able to explore the museum.  We loved the turtles!
