100th Day of School

Balance

This month we started our science unit on balance.  Students have learned that when something is balanced it is in a stable position and that counterweights are placed below the point of balance in order to balance an object.

        

        

        

D.A.R.E.

Every Wednesday in January Officer Mellon has joined our class.  He has talked with Room 11 about making good decisions and how important it is to get along with others.  We have all enjoyed having him in.  He promises to come back and visit.

          

Monday Funday!

Yesterday afternoon we had hot chocolate and made a cute snow globe craft because sometimes you need to be seven and eight years old!

        

        

Research

This month students are learning about how to research a topic in books and on the internet.  As a class we chose three questions we could research on tigers.  Here you see students using safe online resources (Kidrex and Pebble Go) to find the answers to their questions.

Gingerbread Houses

I want to thank all of the parents who sent in goodies to decorate gingerbread houses.  Everyone had so much fun!  I especially want to thank Elizabeth Moore, Betsy Ferry and Amanda Rea for making the frosting, we could not have made our houses without you!

      

     

     

    

Gingerbread

Last week we started our gingerbread fun.  We read several different versions of the Gingerbread Man, we made gingerbread cookies and on Friday we created gingerbread people to hang in the hallway.

Non Fiction

Last week, Room 11 compared fiction and non fiction texts by cutting and sorting books from an old book order.  We then spent a few days talking about non fiction conventions and how they help us as readers.  Students also partnered up and did a conventions hunt through non fiction texts.  This is always a favorite genre for second graders!

      

      

November

Friday afternoon before vacation, Room 11 made mini pumpkin pies and created fall pictures.  It was a lovely way to end the week!
