Harvesting Potatoes

Yesterday we harvested the potato plants the students planted last spring.  We then took the potatoes and donated them to The Colchester Food Shelf!  What great community members we have here at UMS!

Community Applesauce

I love this activity!  Our room smelled wonderful and many students tried warm applesauce for the first time. 

Apple Tasting

Today we tasted three different kinds of apples (Red Delicious, Granny Smith and Golden Delicious).  Students then chose their favorite apple and we made a gragh with this data.  I loved watching my students faces as they sampled the apples.

Open House

                         Open House was amazing!  Thank you all for coming!

Second Grade Blogs

Blogging has started in Room 11!  Students truly enjoy being able to post their thoughts and read others.  Second graders really like it when parents leave comments, so please take the time to check out your child's blog. 

      

Community

Every year I spend the first six weeks of school building a sense of community in my classroom.  I believe it is a very important part of my curriculum.  A strong sense of community gives my students the ability to take risks and try new things.  One way I build a sense of belonging in Room 11 is through morning meetings.  First we greet each other, then we read a morning message that tells students what to expect during the day, next we have sharing and finally we end with an activity where we sing songs, play games and laugh.

                

Second Grade

We have been very busy in Room 11 over the past three weeks learning classroom routines, practicing 2nd grade expectations and having lots of fun!  This is such an amazing group of students, I love them all!
