Library Visit

This is just a reminder that our class will be walking to the Burnham Library tomorrow (Thursday, October 22nd) after lunch with Mrs. Howard's class.  We will leave school at 12:45 and will return to school by about 2:15.

Fire Safety Presentation

The Colchester Firefighters came to UMS on Monday to talk about fire safety.  They discussed setting up a meeting place with your family in case you need to leave your house quickly.  The firefighters also put on all their gear to show us that we shouldn't be scared if we ever see a firefighter dressed up with their mask, hood and air tank.  The students enjoyed the visit and learned a lot.  Here are some pictures from our presentation.

      

Four Winds

Last Thursday Room 11 had their first Four Winds lesson.  We learned about bugs and metamorphosis. We had a great time!  Our favorite part was going outside and looking for bugs!

Potatoes!

This afternoon Room 11 picked the potatoes they planted at the end of first grade.  They then brought the potatoes into the food shelf.  

      

      

      

      

      

Community Applesauce

Another way to build a classroom community is to cook together.  Today everyone brought in one peeled, cored and sliced apple to add to the crockpot.  By the end of the day we had a delicious treat to eat together!  It was a thumbs up!

Second Grade Readers

One of my favorite things about second grade is when students read to the class.  Here we have two very proud readers!

                

Partner Reading

On Friday afternoon we practiced being good reading partners.  It was so exciting to see everyone engaged and enjoying each other.  I have such a wonderful class!  It is going to be a wonderful year!

Silent Reading

Room 11 has been working on reading stamina since the second week of school.  This is an amazing class, we are already up to fifteen minutes!  It is one of my favorite times of the day!

                      

Picture Day

This week we will be getting our pictures taken.  Please remind your child to bring their movie star smile on Thursday, September 17th!

UMS BBQ!

This is just a reminder that the UMS BBQ is this Wednesday from 5:30-7:00.  It should be a fun evening filled with good food and great families.  I hope to see you all there!
