Chris Van Dusen

Today we had an exciting visit from children's author Chris Van Dusen!!  He is an author and illustrator of 9 children's hooks and he has illustrated numerous other books, posters, license plates, and pamphlets.  He was very entertaining and we loved hearing about his writing process!  Here are our pictures from this great presentation!

Rocks!

This morning and for the next three Wednesdays, Lilah's dad will be coming in and teaching us about rocks.  Mr. Matt is a geologists and here are some things he taught us today:

*The rock cycle is a naturally occurring solid group of one or more minerals.
*A mineral is a naturally occurring solid with a crystal structure.
*Minerals make up the earth.
*Geologists observe and record
*The most important/common mineral is Plagioclase Feldaspar.

We also got to look at and touch different rocks.  Mr. Matt was a hit!

Happy Valentine's Day!

This is one of my favorite holidays.  Students giving and receiving mail is the highlight of the day. Having an ice cream party was also exciting!  Thank you so much to all the parents that sent in supplies to make the ice cream social a hit!

Today Room 11 made cards for a young woman who fell in December and is now paralyzed.  We are sending her happy hearts to decorate her walls and hopefully bring a smile to her heart!
